The Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill passed by the House of Representatives Monday contains a provision to extend authorization of the agency’s unmanned aircraft systems test site at Griffiss International Airport and five others for three more years.
The six sites were announced in December 2013 to help the FAA safely integrate commercial drones into the U.S. airspace. The six locations have performed such tasks nighttime operations, flying multiple aircraft in the same airspace, and researching and testing aircraft up to an altitude of 1,200 feet.
